Kentucky taking steps to collect taxes

The Kentucky Motor Transport Association reports that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet now has the authority to place a lien on the equipment of carriers that are behind in their state transportation taxes. The state can also confiscate IRP plates for unpaid taxes. Kentucky scales will soon be able to check a vehicle’s IRP status automatically, guaranteeing that trucks get checked, and the state is also testing license plate and DOT-number readers. In the past year, the state has collected some $800,000 through such methods—plenty of incentive to continue them.
