Details on the FMCSA hours-of-service listening sessions

If you can’t make it to Arlington, Va., Dallas or Los Angeles, you can still provide suggestions and comments on the hours-of-service requirements during the upcoming Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) listening sessions. You may participate by audio conference, and may also be able to participate via webcast, although those details aren’t available yet. To conference in by phone, here’s what you need to know:

An FMCSA spokesperson told the American Trucking Associations that the fourth listening session will be January 28 in Davenport, Iowa, but no information has been posted about this session as yet.

FMCSA is interested in your view of whether there should be mandatory short rest periods and how long they should be, whether the driver should be given flexibility in taking short rest periods, how many hours per day and per week are safe and healthy for a truck driver to work, how drivers are using the current 34-hour off-duty period before restart, and what effect the fixed 14-hour driving window has had on waiting times for loading and unloading.
