Penalties increased for hazardous materials violations
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has adjusted the penalties for violations of the hazmat regulations. The minimum civil penalty for violations related to training is now $275, up from $250, and the maximum is now $495. Maximum for other violations will now be $55,000. For a violation resulting in death, serious illness or injury, the maximum will be $110,000. The effective date for these increases was December 31, 2009.
